bio
Meredith Brice is an interdisciplinary visual artist and independent curator living and working in Australia. She received an Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts from Sydney Gallery School [1997], a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Newcastle Australia [2001], and a Graduate Diploma of Education Secondary Art, Charles Sturt University Australia [2004]. In 2016 she completed a Master of Philosophy in Fine Art with the University of Newcastle, Australia. She holds awards for undergraduate and postgraduate excellence including Dean's and Vice Chancellor's Awards, is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society for academic excellence in the Fine Arts. She is founder and artistic director of the project cc contemporary art space [est. 2006-2011], Gosford Anglican, New South Wales, Australia; a non-commercial interdisciplinary arts venue promoting contemporary art-forms through a diverse program of exhibitions and events located in dialogues around sustainable environment, social justice and peace, intercultural perspectives, ethical and philosophical ideas.

As an interdisciplinary Visual Artist and art educator she conducts art workshops for adults and young people at universities, art museums and public venues in Australia and internationally. She was invited workshop presenter at ITAE:Intervention Through Art Education, Art Education Strategies and Possibilities for Diversity in Education, Graz, Austria [2009], and invited workshop presenter in conjunction with the World Universities Congress, COMU: Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Turkey [2010]. In September 2015 as guest curator of the Great WW1 Centenary exhibition for Macquarie University Art Gallery Sydney she presented Contemporary Gallipoli in the Tricontinental Lecture Series at the University of Barcelona (2015). Her works are held in private Collections in Australia and internationally. Wellbeing Week art workshops facilitated to Macquarie University faculty at the Macquarie University Art Gallery [2017], [2018].

Making a Splash: Mermaids and Modernity explores the mermaid as an active agency and cultural figure in the contemporary world. The exhibition features new works offering fresh perspectives of the mermaid including painting, photography, sound, video and installation.

'At the other end of the gallery some small installations by higher degree candidate Meredith Brice Copland. They have the immediate attraction of jewel boxes, with bright tangles and weavings of glass beads and a cabinet of curiosities brilliantly lit. But they apparently illustrate aspects of nanotechnology, particularly in its application to future textiles, illustrated by a jacket rich in invention. Is this a new way to make art? Travels in Textile art workshop

This workshop will explore ideas of how fabric can shape, document and communicate the notion of travel both physically and through memory; past, present and future. Textile geographies are inspiration for an imaginative journey with fabric that is transformed into an Artist Book. Please bring your own watercolour paper and fabric scraps to re-use, travel photographs to re-work and re-interpret.
